There can be different map codes on each sub-map that is part of the overall map.

For this discussion I am going to refer to the map code on the large state map on any given state map.

SOHIO used Rand Mc Nally maps from 1924-1926, 1930-19-1985.

See the SOHIO-OH-Spreadsheet to see the code sequences Rand Mc Nally used in dating their maps.

Next lets look at the 1967 base code of 6714, the 67 again represents the last two digits of the year the map format was created.

In 1970 there are two version of the map, a 706714-7 and a 706714-8, the 70 before the base code is the last two digits of the year the map was produced, and the 7&8 after the base code are the two revisions for the map made in 1970.

From about 1918 to 1926 most of the Maps Rand Mc Nally produced were what I call "hard-cover" maps, the map is glued into a folder.

All of these so called "hard-cover" maps I have seen can be dated with a year date that is fairly easy to find either on the map cover or on the map itself.

The Sohio 1955 map code is 5-554903V-1 and the 1965 map code is 5-554903V-21.
